Mary Ludlow

Mary V. (Flynn) Ludlow, 98, died at her home in West Falmouth on October 22.

She was the wife of George C. Ludlow, to whom she was married for 58 years. Her husband died in 2002.

Born in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens, New York, she was the daughter of Anthony Flynn and Julia Counihan, immigrants from Ireland. She was raised with her four brothers on Staten Island.

She and George Ludlow of New Jersey wed in 1942, while he was on shore leave from the United States Navy. By the early 1950s, the couple had moved their young family to Massachusetts; they made their home in Medfield and, by the late 1950s, they started spending the summer on Cape Cod.

After many summers in Megansett, in 1986 she and her husband retired to West Falmouth. They were both avid golfers and throughout the 1990s Ms. Ludlow played with the Nine Hole Women’s Group of the Woods Hole Golf Club.

Ms. Ludlow was a congregant of St. Elizabeth Seton Church in North Falmouth.

She leaves six children, Barbara Coughlin of Staten Island, New York, Jane Ludlow Philippacopoulos of Athens, Greece, Diane Reilley of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Pamela Peters of Falmouth, Mary Le Blanc of Cotuit and George Ludlow of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be said on Monday, November 9, at 10 AM at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 481 Quaker Road in North Falmouth.

Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
