Michelle Ferreira

Michelle Lynn Ferreira of Falmouth died October 27 at Cape Cod Hospital, from complications of multiple sclerosis. She was 61.

She was the daughter of George H. and Catherine (Hatzikon) Ferreira.

A graduate of the Falmouth High School Class of 1978, she went on to receive a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Anna Maria College in 1982.

After college Ms. Ferreira was employed by New York Life Insurance Company in the payroll department before returning to Falmouth to work side-by-side with her father at the family restaurant, The Grasmere Pub. For a brief time, she and her sister Diana took over running the restaurant until her multiple sclerosis caused her to step down.

In her earlier years, Ms. Ferreira was an avid skier and skied many New England mountains, her favorite being Mt. Sunapee, where she skied with family and friends.

Accomplished on trumpet, she played the instrument in the FHS band after being asked to join in the 7th grade. She was also a member of the high school stage band, Falmouth Town Band, and the Cape Cod Symphony. In addition, Ms. Ferreira played trumpet at various private events, her favorite being many Fourth of Julys, when she played taps at the West Falmouth Harbor boathouse.

Besides her parents, she leaves her sisters, Catherine Holmes, Diana Pontieri and Karen Hamilton; her nephew and niece, Christopher Hamilton Jr. and Amanda Hamilton; her aunt and uncle, Charles and Betty Hatzikon, and aunts, Olivia Kudrot and Alice Murphy; and other extended family members.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, November 3, at St. Anthony’s Church in East Falmouth Falmouth.

Burial was to be private.
