Richard E. Schaefer, 82, of Falmouth died on New Year’s Day.

Born in Hornell, New York, he was the son of Otto and Charlotte (Egbert) Schaefer.

He was a 1960 graduate of the University of Rochester and he earned his master’s degree from Boston State College in 1967.

Mr. Schaefer was a veteran of the US Army.

After growing up in Winchester, he spent the majority of his adult life in Stamford, Connecticut; he taught at Stamford High School for many years.

Following his teaching career, Mr. Schaefer held several positions at Trans-Lux in Norwalk, Connecticut, until his retirement.

He was a fan of Ted Williams and followed the Boston Red Sox. He also had an interest in politics.

He leaves his siblings, Eric Schaefer of Cotuit and Betsy Vourlekis of Washington, DC.

Services will be private.
