Richard T. Dunn, 86, of East Falmouth died September 1.

He was the husband of Janet A. Dunn for 67 years.

Born in Newton, he was the son of Peter and Julia Dunn.

Mr. Dunn retired from the Newton Police Department in 1972. After his retirement, he moved to East Falmouth.

Besides his career as a police officer, he was a captain of a charter fishing boat, an accomplished stone mason, and operator of Cape Cod Canal patrol boats for the Army Corps of Engineers.

Also a veteran, he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Worcester (CL 144) during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife, he leaves seven children, Ann Penney, Cheryl Dunn, Richard Dunn, Bernie Varao, Kathy Patterson, James Dunn and Daniel Dunn; four sisters, Peggy Ann Eldredge, Katie Izzo, Sabina Durning and Julie Leroy; a brother, Patrick Dunn; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and extended family.

He was predeceased by two siblings, Peter Dunn and Barbara Vespa.

Burial is private.
