Robert E. Blanchard, 77, of Falmouth died at home on April 21, after a long battle with cancer.

He was the husband of Marie (Quinlan) Blanchard for 56 years.

Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Elizabeth (Hammond) Blanchard. He grew up in Wilmington and attended school there.

Mr. Blanchard began his career by working in the family business, Blanchard Motors in Reading. He then starting his own heating installation and service company.

He furthered his education at Massasoit Community College, where he earned an associate in science degree, then continued his studies at Rhode Island College for a bachelor of science degree and a master’s degree in education. He was inducted into Epsilon Pi Tau, the International Honorary Professional Fraternity for Education in Technology.

Mr. Blanchard taught in the Norfolk County school system for many years.

During his time in Falmouth he was known as “The Mayor of Worcester Court” by many of those he greeted from his porch on their way to Falmouth Heights Beach. Among his pastimes were boating, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and reading. He also enjoyed music.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Paula Blanchard DeMello of Falmouth and Sheila Blanchard of South Yarmouth; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and extended family.

Funeral services will be scheduled at a later date.
