William K. Mackey of Woods Hole died in Boston on July 6 at the age of 87.
He was the husband of Wendy L. (Crane) Mackey. They had been married for 58 years.
He was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He graduated in 1954 from Princeton University and went on to Harvard Law School, earning his law degree in 1959.
Mr. Mackey practiced law in Boston, Osterville and Falmouth, continuing his work up until the time of his death.
He married Winnie Crane on April 22, 1961, in Dalton. Prior to settling in Woods Hole in their later years, the couple lived in Brooklyn Heights, New York, as well as Winchester and Milton.
During his retirement, he and his wife spent time traveling, golfing, and engaging with the Woods Hole community. Mr. Mackey enjoyed swimming and going for bicycle rides into his final days.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, William T. Mackey and his wife, Carol Lee Rawn, of Cambridge and Cameron K. Mackey and his wife, Susana Mackey, of New Canaan, Connecticut; his brother, Edward S. Mackey of Jupiter, Florida; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Abigail B. Mackey, who died in 1986 in a climbing accident; and by his sister, Christine Mackey.
A celebration of his life will be Friday, August 2, at 4 PM at his home, followed by a reception.
