I appreciate the coverage of the important work of the board of library trustees. The trustees must think broadly about providing library services across the community.

The discussion covered in last week’s Enterprise was based on very initial conversations. The dates for the upcoming grant rounds for a potential new library building in North Falmouth have not yet been set by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. There are a number of libraries on the current waiting list whose projects must be addressed prior to the announcement of a new grant round. The dates for the next grant round remain flexible and will not be announced in the next few years.

In the meantime, all options for library services must be carefully considered. While the north branch library and the West Falmouth Library have worked cooperatively in the past, there have been no formal discussions between the boards.

This spring the Falmouth Public Library will begin working on a new strategic plan. A community forum will be held in the Herman Room on May 2 and we encourage everyone to attend and share their ideas.
