After reading the article in the Saturday Boston Globe about the gun range at Joint Base Cape Cod, it made me think, does the public on Cape Cod not realize we need these men to know how to shoot and do their job well in case of an emergency?

When 9/11 happened the first fighter pilots to respond were from Joint Base Cape Cod.

This base has been in existence since 1911, long before these naysayers said “not in my back yard.”

During the 1940s the base was activated by the US Army and used to train for World War II. (In fact, my dad trained there before he was deployed to the South Pacific in 1942.)

Some people feel they need to protest anything and everything. Tell these people to get ready to defend our country if and when there is a need.

And regarding Brigadier General Faux’s letter to the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, yes, it was a little harsh and he has apologized, but maybe it is a wakeup call for all the “protestors.”

This sums it up. We need a well-trained National Guard. Lack of training can result in deaths and injuries for military personnel when deployed against hostile forces. We are watching a typical NIMBY stance here by the usual suspects.
