During a week or so in mid-August we experienced a highly unusual September in the middle of August. This appeared to be due to the northern jet stream being too weakly structured to keep northern air in the polar region, and not strong enough to push through the pair of tropical depressions east of Canada and east of Florida.

We and our leaders are going to have to find means to cope with the emerging situation. What is to be done?
