Anna Hohlein exploded for 13 of her game-high 18 points in the second half as the Falmouth Academy girls’ basketball team pulled away to blow out Sturgis East by a 40-22 score at home on Tuesday, February 2. Hohlein had been held in check by the Navigators throughout the first half, scoring just single buckets in each of the first and second quarters.
In the second half she caught fire, though. With five in the third and another eight points in the fourth, Hohlein led the way for FA as it scored a lopsided win.
Saniya Rajagopal helped FA get to the half with a slim 19-16 lead. She scored seven of her eight points before the half, including a first-quarter three-pointer as the Lady Mariners jumped out in front. In the second half the Lady Mariners’ defense dominated. FA allowed six points in the third quarter, and nothing from the Sturgis East squad in the fourth.
The win was the second in a row for the Mariners, who improved to 3-2 overall.
FA won a nail-biter last Friday, January 29, against Sturgis West, 44-40. Rajagopal torched the nets for 26 to lead a great win by the Lady Mariners, their second of the year.
Hohlein finished with eight points and Piper Augut scored five. Lily Manning had 19 for Sturgis.
