The Falmouth women opened up their 2019 Cape Cod Women’s Soccer League season with a 4-1 victory against Orleans on Tuesday, June 11. Falmouth scored three straight goals to close out Orleans and get the year started right.

Delaney Markham netted the first goal of the game for Falmouth in the 26th minute. She put home a feed from Sarah Weiss.

The score stayed that way for a while before the goal-scoring got fast and furious. Orleans tied it in the 58th minute and then came close to taking the lead just a minute later, but a diving save by goalie Rachael Cumberland kept it knotted up.

Over the final 15 minutes Falmouth ran away with the game. Eliza Green drew a foul just outside the 18 that resulted in a direct kick in the 65th minute of play. Jen Cardeiro lined it up and bent a shot over the hands of the goalie to put her team ahead, 2-1.

Two late insurance goals finished it off for Falmouth. Hannah Willy put in a great pass from Britney Carlson in the 76th minute for a 3-1 advantage. Then, in the final minute of play, Tess McCabe rocketed in a great pass from Eliza Green.
