The Falmouth High School boys’ tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Cape Cod Academy on the road on Wednesday, May 15. Falmouth fell to 2-10 on the season overall with the defeat.
The Clippers’ lone victory in the match was turned in at the third singles spot by freshman Will Gerlach, who bested junior AJ Lusty. Gerlach pulled out a 7-5 win in close first set and then won the second one a bit easier, 6-3.
First singles player Max Carter had a chance as well, but lost his momentum in the middle of the match and fell to junior Sam Shanahan. Carter took the first set by a 6-4 score, but Shanahan rallied to take the next two by identical 6-2 counts.
At second singles Alex LaRuffa lost to Dylan Kostovick in a showdown between juniors. Kostovick won, 6-3, 6-2, for the Seahawks.
In doubles, the Clippers first team of Gavin Engstrom and Ryan Walsh were defeated by Eli Sorenti-Burns and Anthony Moring, 6-1, 6-2. At second doubles the team of Andrew Walsh and Max Gorell were beaten by Richard Leedham and TJ Yeomans, 6-2, 6-4.
