On Sunday, January 31, the Falmouth-Mashpee gymnastics team scored a lopsided win over the cooperative team from Somerset-Berkley and Case. F-M was dominant in the virtual meet, winning by a 135.12 to 117.7 final score.
The Flippers’ Ava Kelley was the top all-around performer in the meet, scoring a total of 35.45 points. Ava DeSimone scored 32.3 in the all-around portion.
In the vault the Flippers scored a total of 35.55 points, with Kelley leading the way with a big 9.45 score. DeSimone was second best with a high number herself, earning a 9.2. Vic Reynolds put an 8.5 up on the board and Michelle Bruck-Espinoza popped an 8.4.
Delia Roulston scored an 8.2, and Tallia Dimaggio had an 8.15. The top four scores count toward the team’s total.
On the uneven bars, F-M finished with a 30.95. Kelley had the top score of 8.3 for the team. Second best was the 8.05 scored by Ella Squarcia. DeSimone had a 7.4 and Daelyn Peters put up a 7.2.
Also in the event were Roulston (6.9), and Syane Fraser (7.0).
For the balance beam F-M scored a total of 33.4 points. Fraser and Peters tied for the best score on the team as each girl scored 8.5 in the event. Kelley scored an 8.4 and Squarcia had an 8.0. Roulston (7.6) and DeSimone (7.0) also did well in the event.
F-M killed it in the floor exercise. The team earned 35.3 points in the event, led by Kelley’s excellent 9.3 to close the show. Squarcia thrilled with an 8.9, and DeSimone had a strong 8.7 showing. Peters’ 8.4 rounded out the totals that counted. Victoria Reynolds and Fraser each put up 8.0 scores.
A day earlier, against Barnstable, F-M lost a close one to its rivals, 133.8 to 132.25.
BHS scored wins in three of the four events, with the F-M victory coming in the floor exercise. Kelley, who won the all-around with a 35.3 score, led that event with a 9.1. DeSimone had an 8.7, Squarcia an 8.4 and Fraser an 8.6.
The vault was very close, but Barnstable edged the 34.85 that F-M put up by 0.35 points. Kelley led the way with a score of 9.4 and DeSimone had an 8.9, while Roulston hit a big 8.45. Reynolds finished the scoring in the event with an 8.1 for the Flippers.
On the bars BHS won 32.6-31.2. Fraser had the top score for the team with an 8.0. Peters and Kelley each scored 7.8. DeSimone earned a 7.6.
The balance beam was won by the BHS girls, 31.8-31.4. Kelley had a great performance with a 9.0. Fraser scored 7.6 and Peters and DeSimone both finished with 7.4.
