The Falmouth Acadmy girls’ basketball team dropped a 53-39 decision to visiting Cape Cod Academy.
The Lady Mariners fell to 9-8 overall and have one regular season game remaining, at Monomoy on February 18. The Sharks won by 29 in the previous meeting between the clubs. While FA has qualified for the state tournament already, a defeat again against Monomoy would move them down the Division 4 tournament bracket.
CCA was led by senior Kaileigh Bickford’s 15 points and 10 rebounds and Mackenzie Balfores’ 16 and 11 performance. FA got a great 17-point showing from guard Leah Croom. Senior Ainsley Ramsey had six points on Senior Night at FA.
Earlier in the week the Mariners lost a 44-38 decision to Sturgis West. The Mariners held a 21-18 lead at the half, but the Navigators pulled even by the end of the third quarter, with each team scoring 31 by that point, and then took over in the fourth quarter.
Falmouth resident Ava Dowick scored 12 in the second half to lead Sturgis to victory. She had 17 overall in the game to lead all scorers.
Victoria Searle and Croom each had 10 points in the game for the Mariners. Searle helped FA stay in the game in the fourth quarter, hitting for five of the team’s seven points.
