Friel To The Finish

Falmouth High’s Gavin Friel heads toward the finish line during a recent cross-country meet at FHS.

Falmouth traveled to Nauset for cross country action on Tuesday, October 8. The boys fell by a 20-39 score, while the girl were bested 15-40.

Freshman Henry Gartner won a close race against Nauset’s top runner, Finn Riley, taking the top spot by eight seconds. Gartner finished in 16 minutes and 39 seconds, Riley ran 16:47.

Nauset runners claimed spots two through seven. In eighth was Falmouths’ Henry Toran-Sandlin, who finished in 19:17. Milo Van Mooy was 12th overall with a time of 20:36. Alex LaRuffa finished 18th with a time of 21:15 and Gavin Friel finished next, running 21:30.

On the girls’ side, Annabelle Abbott had the best time for Falmouth, running the course in 21:43, which was good for sixth overall. Catherine Cone was next, claiming seventh overall, with a time of 23:42.

Josephine Oberton ran for ninth place. She was the third Clipper with a time of 24:17. Ava Warner was 12th with a time of 27:58. Cecilia Riley ran 28:37 to finish fifth from FHS.
