The Falmouth Academy boys’ basketball team led after one quarter and was feeling pretty good about its chances against Sturgis West at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center on Tuesday, January 7. However, after a strong first quarter came a bad second one.

The Navigators gained a big lead by halftime and continued to add on in a Cape and Islands League victory. Sturgis enjoyed a 61-33 victory.

The Mariners were not only in it during the first quarter, but enjoyed a lead by the end of the period, 13-12. Rob Ciaffoni scored seven points for the Mariners during their strong opening, but Sturgis paid extra attention to him the rest of the way and kept the senior from scoring more after that.

Sturgis stepped up their pressure and led 31-19 by the half as they held the Mariners to just two second quarter field goals. Sturgis rolled from that point and took the win.
