Here’s some information you may not have heard before, about your HEALTH, WEALTH and MENTAL ACUITY:
UNTREATED HEARING LOSS has been proven to affect them all. 1
• When the incoming message is garbled because of hearing loss, the brain has to work harder to decode, thus affecting memory and focus. (50% more likely to have dementia with untreated hearing loss.)
• When we can’t hear, we cannot position ourselves in space, causing falls.
• When we can’t hear things that are a distance away, we can be startled when they suddenly have moved next to us, affecting balance.
• When we are socially isolated because we can’t hear, depression follows (40% more likely!) affecting all our successes.
Despite all this and more, “adoption” rates for using hearing aids (when needed) are low. Is it the price?
Well, we know that in other countries where hearing aids are free, the adoption rate is only a few percentage points higher than ours. We also know that in countries where there are already “Over the Counter” (less expensive) devices available, the adoption percentage is lower, not higher, than ours. 2
Despite that, our lawmakers believe that it is the price. Therefore, the Over-the-Counter (OTC) Hearing Aid Act was passed in 2017, allowing for less expensive Personal Amplification Systems to be available (excluding service) soon. The FDA is still working on the details.
We at Simply Hearing believe (through observation and studies) that quality aids and a good service provider is what is needed to navigate through the process and maintenance of fitting and wearing hearing aids. US satisfaction rate with “fitted” hearing aids was up to as high as 91% (MarkeTrak study) 3 ! The newer the aids, the higher the satisfaction.
When you really want to be sure to have a great suit, or golf clubs, or work out, you have a professional do your individual fitting. When it comes to hearing, the same theory is even more important.
We are Simply Hearing, Inc. We are conveniently located in the HOMEPORT professional offices and are here to “fit” you with the proper aids and style to match your dexterity, ear shape and particular needs; providing counseling and follow up now and for years to come.
