Mashpee - Santa Claus

Jackson Lovett, 6, of Mashpee asks if Santa can equip him with some night vision goggles in 2018.

Ho ho ho! Santa is back!

The Mashpee Recreation Department will host a tree lighting ceremony at Community Park across from Town Hall on Saturday, December 4, at 5:30 PM.

The event will include a sing-along to popular holiday songs, followed by a visit from Santa Claus and free hot chocolate. Mr. Claus will lead the countdown to the lighting of the holiday tree and will then pose for photos with children and attendees.

“It’s a great way to kick off the holiday season here in Mashpee; the holiday lights are magnificent,” Mashpee recreation director Mary K. Bradbury said. “There is something kind of heartwarming about the tree lighting, that emotional, visceral connection to the season.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tree lighting ceremony did not take place last year, and Ms. Bradbury said she is excited to hold the event again this year.

The holiday tree is donated by Mahoney’s Garden Center, and the hot chocolate is donated by Cape Cod Coffee. The ceremony runs for about an hour, but the holiday tree remains lit in the evenings throughout the winter season.
