A Mashpee man is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping, after he allegedly robbed a Hyannis ice cream shop at knife point last Saturday, June 8.
Barnstable Police were called to the Steve & Sue’s Par Tee Freeze on West Main Street at 11:32 PM when the shop’s employees reported the robbery.
The employees told police that while they were closing for the night, they were approached by a man who brandished a knife with a small blade and yellow handle, telling the employees to give him all of the money.
The man took two bank bags with about $6,000 inside them, then walked toward Hyannis West Elementary School.
A K9 unit was called to search the grounds of the school. During the investigation, surveillance footage of the shop was reviewed and police identified the man as Lawrence Bland, 55, of Mashpee.
On Monday, June 10, police were able to locate Mr. Bland at his job. As he was leaving work, police conducted a traffic stop of his vehicle and arrested him. While searching the car, the knife described in the robbery was found. When police followed up with one of the victims, the victim confirmed that it was the same knife.
Mr. Bland has been charged with armed robbery while masked, two counts of kidnapping, and assault by dangerous weapon (knife).
