A Mashpee man has been ordered to serve 10 months in the Barnstable County Correctional Facility for distribution of obscene matter.

Scott A. Soares, 30, of Mashpee was sentenced for distributing images and videos of his ex-girlfriend to pornography websites. The victim claims she was 16 in at least one of the nude images.

The victim, now 24, contacted Detective Andrew Loewen of the Falmouth Police Department on January 30, 2020, informing him that nude, underage photographs and videos of her were being posted online without her consent.

She had been alerted by a male using an anonymous email account. The man had been in contact with Mr. Soares via his PayPal account to purchase photographs of the victim through Reddit. He reached out to her to ask if the images had been stolen.

A Google search of the victim’s name revealed the Reddit page and more pornography websites with videos and photos of her.

All the websites were contacted, and the images and videos were removed, due to the victim’s being underage at the time they were taken.

Mr. Soares was also listed as a suspect for creating false Instagram and Twitter accounts for the same victim in October 2020. She also reported a vandalism at her residence and had videos of Mr. Soares on the property. The victim’s landlord asked her to move out to avoid any more vandalism issues, and she moved back in with her mother.

Mr. Soares pleaded guilty to the distribution of obscene matter and was sentenced to 10 months in the house of corrections.
