In a hearing last Thursday, November 19, in Barnstable County Superior Court, murder defendant Marc Audette, 45, of Mashpee was declared incompetent to stand trial by Judge Mark Gildea, according to the court clerk's office.
Judge Gildea ordered Mr. Audette to be civilly committed to Bridgewater State Hospital, not exceeding six months or until his competency is restored.
The next hearing is scheduled for May 19, 2021.
Mr. Audette virtually attended the hearing Thursday from the hospital.
Mr. Audette is being charged for the murder of his then-girlfriend Sandra L. Corfield, 53, of Edgartown. Ms. Corfield was killed on March 26 in Mashpee. Mr. Audette told police he hit her in the head with a dumbbell and stabbed himself in the stomach with a sword.
