Dorothy V. Henderson, a 91-year-old Mashpee resident, died after being struck by a vehicle on Route 28 in the area of Orchard Road in Mashpee on Monday, November 22, at approximately 5:47 PM.

The Mashpee Police Department responded to multiple reports that a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and, upon arrival at the scene, saw the victim was down in the roadway with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries after being struck possibly by two vehicles traveling west on Route 28.

The Mashpee Fire/Rescue Department transported the victim to Falmouth Hospital, where she died of her injuries.

“I am sad to report that the victim involved in last evening’s pedestrian accident on Route 28 has tragically died as a result of her injuries,” Mashpee Police Chief Scott W. Carline said in a statement Tuesday. “She is identified as Dorothy V. Henderson of Mashpee, and our deepest condolences go out to her family.”

Both drivers of the vehicles remained on the scene of the accident and cooperated with the investigation, the police department said.

The accident remains under investigation by Mashpee police, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit.
