Mashpee Police have identified the 27-year old who died in a car crash as Dimas T. Cardoso, with a last known address in Oak Bluffs.

He was killed Friday night last week, November 13, when his vehicle struck a guardrail on Mashpee Neck Road, Mashpee Police Chief Scott W. Carline said in a statement.

Police responded to the crash near 367 Mashpee Neck Road at 9:27 PM after a caller reported hearing a loud crash and seeing lights flashing.

It appears he was heading south, lost control of the car, crossed over the northbound lane and struck the guardrail, the statement said. Mr. Cardoso, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Mashpee Fire/Rescue Department.

The crash is under investigation by the Mashpee Police Department, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit, the statement said.

“The accident is still under investigation. Some of the technical and mechanical aspects take a little time and involve search warrants for the vehicle,” Chief Carline said on Wednesday, November 17.

A toxicology report will be done, but Chief Carline said he does not expect any results for the next several weeks.
