Visiting hours and a service have been announced for longtime Mashpee selectman and resident John J. Cahalane.

Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, June 13, at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home on Algonquin Avenue in Mashpee.

A service will be held on Friday, June 14, at 10 AM also at the funeral home, followed by burial at Great Woods Cemetery on Great Neck Road.

Mr. Cahalane died Saturday morning, June 8, following an operation earlier in the week. He had been serving in his 7th term and 20th year on the Mashpee Board of Selectmen and was named this past Monday, June 3, as the board's honorary dean. He was the first person upon which the board had chosen to bestow that honor.

Mr. Cahalane grew up in the Boston area before moving to Mashpee in the 1970s. He and his wife, Christine (Dulchinos) Cahalane, opened and operated The Farm nightclub on Route 151 before Mr. Cahalane received a job at Diversified Resorts. His wife died December 30, 2013.

The Mashpee resident sat on several boards and committees throughout his tenure in town government. Aside from 20 years on the board of selectmen, he served 14 years on the Mashpee Housing Authority.
