Mashpee Playground

Pre-COVID-19, children enjoy the playground at the Mashpee Little League Field in this file photograph by the Enterprise.

The Town of Mashpee will reopen playgrounds that had been closed since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Town Manager Rodney C. Collins told the Mashpee Board of Selectmen at their meeting on Monday, October 5.

“We intend to reopen and post at the playgrounds ‘Use at your own risk,’” Mr. Collins said.

Selectman Andrew R. Gottlieb asked if hand sanitizer will be provided and whether the signage will include signage indicating that masks are required.

Mr. Collins replied that he will look into providing hand sanitizer, and while it will be difficult to police whether individuals are complying with the mask mandate at the playgrounds, signs will indicate that masks are required.

Selectman David W. Weeden asked whether the playgrounds could be subject to periodic disinfection.

“To be perfectly frank with you right now, our attention is on the schools,” Mr. Collins said. “I’m not saying we can’t; I’m just going to check with the DPW [Department of Public Works] director, and if we can do occasional sanitizing, then we will.”
