A UPS truck hit a pothole on Seneca Avenue in Mashpee at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 14, causing a fuel spill.

Mashpee Fire Chief Thomas C. Rullo said the fuel tank was punctured when the truck hit the pothole. Chief Rullo said the driver did not realize the depth of the pothole because it was filled with rainwater.

The Mashpee Department of Public Works used sand to dike the spilled fuel, preventing the gasoline from spreading.

First responders contacted the state Department of Environmental Protection, Mr. Rullo said.
