Andrew D. Newton, 57, of Bluffton, South Carolina, died at home December 12. He was the son of Helen R. Newton of Mashpee.
Born in Northampton, he attended schools in Florence and Longmeadow. He graduated from Barnstable High School in 1981.
After high school, Mr. Newton entered the United States Coast Guard; he was stationed in Chatham and Woods Hole as a fireman. Upon completion of his service, he spent the early part of his career working in construction and insurance businesses on Cape Cod.
He went on to earn a degree in information technology from Clark University’s Computer Career Institute. While at Clark, he met Sherri L. Turner, who would become his wife.
Mr. Newton enjoyed a long and successful career in information systems with Staples, Inc.
For the past 10 years, he had called Bluffton his home. There, he nourished his love for the ocean with sailing, boat building, and scuba diving the year around. He also enjoyed woodworking and loved to help others with his ability to fix nearly anything.
In addition to his mother and his wife, he leaves his son, Andrew Newton Jr. of West Yarmouth; three siblings, Seth H. Newton of Franklin, Barbara P. Manchester of North Falmouth and Tyler F. Newton of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and other family.
He was preceded in death by his father, the Reverend Seth W. Newton; and his brother Roger W. Newton.
A memorial service is planned for April at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
