Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Gerald Willander, 57, of Mashpee died January 25 at Boston Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was the son of Richard D. Willander and the late Electa Willander.

Lt. Col. Willander served in the United States Air Force for 30 years until his retirement.

A graduate of Brookline High School, he received his bachelor’s degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a master’s from National Graduate School of Quality Management.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing and scuba diving, and was a passionate Patriots fan.

He also cared deeply for other veterans and volunteered in the community.

In addition to his father, he leaves three children, Carolyn Willander of Boston, Teresa Willander of New Bedford and Joshua Willander of Mashpee; three siblings, Sean Willander of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, Sten Willander of Newton and Kirsten Willander of Maynard; his former wife, Christine Moroney; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, February 3, from 4 to 8 PM at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Avenue in Mashpee.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 4, at 10 AM at Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee.

Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
