Francis E. McGowan Jr., 82, of Mashpee died March 22 at Royal of Cotuit Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mashpee.

He was the husband of Diana B. McGowan, to whom he was married for 60 years.

The son of Elizabeth and Francis E. McGowan Sr., he graduated from Natick High School.

Mr. McGowan, who was known as Ed, worked as a painter for many years, eventually operating his own business for some time until his retirement. After he retired from his business, for the next 10 years he kept busy working in the fish market at Stop & Shop in Mashpee, and enjoyed the camaraderie there.

He was fond of harvesting quahogs and loved camping with his friends.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Lori McLean of Dorchester and Julie Medeiros of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; two sisters, Anne Mackey of Hingham and Jean Hickson of Framingham; three grandchildren, Nicholas and Gabrielle Pearl and Regina Beauregard; a great-grandson; and extended family.

Visiting hours are Tuesday, March 26, from 4 to 7 PM at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Avenue in Mashpee.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 27, at 10 AM at Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee.

Burial will follow at 11:30 at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
