Gerald H. Pine, a former resident of East Falmouth, died November 29 at Royal of Cotuit Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mashpee. He was 77.

Mr. Pine was of Portuguese/American heritage. His grandparents immigrated here from the Azorean Islands of São Miguel and Faial. Most of his childhood was spent with his maternal grandparents, the Souzas, who owned one of the original strawberry farms in East Falmouth.

After graduating from Lawrence High School with the Class of 1962, Mr. Pine embarked upon a varied working career. He held jobs in public safety as a police officer and as a firefighter/emergency medical technician; skilled trades, performing as a plumber and an electrician.

He lived in Florida and worked as a shrimp boat captain.

Mr. Pine had a passion for sports, whether competing or as a spectator, and he was especially accomplished at golf and played with a single-digit handicap.

He leaves a son, Gerald Pine Jr. of Gulf Breeze, Florida; a granddaughter, Breana Richardson-Pine; a great-granddaughter, Alexis Nettles; and two sisters, Denise Miner and Stephanie Pine, both of East Falmouth.

He was predeceased by his brother, James Pine Jr.

Services will be private.
