John Clark Targgart, 89, died July 15 at his home in Mashpee.

He was the husband of Janet Fricke Targgart for 65 years.

The son of William and Julia Targgart, he was born in Fargo, North Dakota, and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut.

He received his education at Hall High School, Nichols College, and the University of Connecticut, from which he graduated with a business of science degree in business administration.

Mr. Targgart and his wife moved to Glastonbury, Connecticut, in 1960 and they raised their five children there. He was actively involved in their activities that included baseball, horseback riding, swimming, tennis, skiing, and camping.

He worked for the Andersen Corporation for 33 years, retiring as a regional sales manager.

In addition to enjoying golf, Mr. Targgart also loved to travel and was especially fond of annual trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where he enjoyed his children and grandchildren.

A man of faith, he was a parishioner at Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee and active with its St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.

He leaves his wife; four children, Patricia Barron, Leslie Dwyer, Karen Dicke and Eric Targgart; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Hudd Targgart.

He was preceded in death by his son Douglas C. Targgart and his brother Douglas A. Targgart.

A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated July 20 at Parish of Christ the King.

Burial was private.
