John T. Murphy, 76, died from complications of dementia at Bridges by EPOCH assisted living community in Mashpee on June 9.

He was the husband of Pat (Mattoli) Murphy, to whom he was married for 55 years.

Born in Brockton, he was the son of John E. Murphy and Lena (Marella) Murphy.

Mr. Murphy received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and a juris doctor law degree from Suffolk University.

He spent much of his career with Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation as a licensing and permitting manager for construction of nuclear power plants, both foreign and domestic.

He and his wife lived in Taiwan all of 1997 while Mr. Murphy was on assignment as licensing manager for a nuclear power plant there. During that time, they were able to travel to numerous countries and relished the experience.

Mr. Murphy was a former resident of Easton before moving to Bridges by EPOCH in Mashpee.

In addition to his wife, he leaves their children, John R. Murphy of Quincy and Suzanne Murphy Delaney of Alexandria, Virginia; two nieces, Julie Dorgan and Jessica Frankenhoff; and extended family.

Services and burial were to be private.
