John William Brackett Jr., 84, of Mashpee died January 25 at Royal Cotuit Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mashpee after a brief period of illness.

He was the son of John W. Brackett Sr. and Irma J. (Houdlette) Brackett.

Mr. Brackett was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard. He also had worked for several years as a marine mechanic at Falmouth Gun & Tackle.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. One of the most enjoyable times of his life was spent traveling the US with his wife, Estelle Brackett, and their beagle, Misty.

He leaves his sister, Yvonne Brackett Buck of Foley, Alabama; three stepchildren; six step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; and other family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, who died in 2013.

Buried was to be with his wife at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
