Katharin R. Dewey of Mashpee, who was known as Kitzi, died in her sleep at home on September 4. She was 74.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Herman J. Heide and Patricia (Fuller) Heide. She spent her early years in Milton before her family moved to Megansett in 1954.
She met John E. Dewey Jr. while he was stationed at Otis Air Force Base. The couple married and moved to Cheverly, Maryland, where they spent the majority of their years together and raised their three sons.
The Deweys moved back to Cape Cod in 1995 to spend their retirement. Ms. Dewey worked for years at Real Estate Associates, and took part in gatherings of the Thursday Club of North Falmouth in which her mother had previously been a member. She also volunteered with VIPS, or Volunteers in Public Schools, and in the late 1990s was a building co-coordinator at the Lawrence School.
Her involvement in the Cheverly community included the women’s club, Kids in Safety Seats, PTA, and other activities.
She leaves her children, Christopher Dewey of Oakton, Virginia, Michael Dewey of Crofton, Maryland, and Joshua Dewey of Falmouth; a brother, Fritz Heide of Falmouth; four grandchildren; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, who died September 17, 2008; both parents; a brother; and a sister.
A memorial service will be Saturday, September 11, at her Mashpee home.
