Kathleen S. Costa, 98, of Mashpee and formerly of Falmouth died at home February 2, due to medical complications.
She was the wife of Joseph C. Costa, who died in February 1977.
The daughter of Louis B. Stevens and Marie A. (Harney) Stevens, she was a native Cape Codder, born and brought up in Falmouth on a family farm. She was a 12th-generation American, a descendant of Samuel Fuller, who was a physician on the Mayflower.
Ms. Costa was the owner and operator of Sea Spray Shoes and the president of the Falmouth Plaza Association. After selling her business, she went to work as a pharmacy technician for 30 years until she retired at the age of 90.
She was an avid horsewoman and loved going to the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, as well as to horse sales in Saratoga, New York. She had traveled internationally, her favorite place being Japan.
Ms. Costa leaves five daughters, Maureen Campbell Schouten, Melanie J. Edwards, Valerie C. Garland, Kimberly E.C. Scudder and Andrea M. Williams; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Marie, who died in 1952; and also by her three siblings and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 7, from 3 to 5 PM at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street in Falmouth.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 8, at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 511 Main Street in Falmouth.
Burial will be private.
