She was the wife of Richard H. Gardner, with whom she shared 12 years of marriage.
An identical twin, she and her sister, Martha, were the daughters of Robert Carr and Barbara (Sylvia) Carr. The family lived in New Bedford and later moved to East Sandwich.
Ms. Gardner graduated from Sandwich High School in the Class of 1990. She then attended the post-graduate program at Stoneleigh-Burnham School. In later years, she completed the radiology technician program at Massasoit Community College.
After becoming a certified radiology technician, Ms. Gardner worked at Rehabilitation Hospital of the Cape & Islands (RHCI) and at Cape Cod Orthopedics; most recently she worked at Falmouth Hospital.
Ms. Gardner had an active life style. In her youth she enjoyed horseback riding, skiing and ice skating, and was a high school hockey cheerleader. Her love of sports continued into adulthood, and she also grew to love traveling.
She was accomplished at both cooking and baking. She loved the beach and especially weekends with friends and family spent at Sandy Neck Beach.
When she became a mother she was involved in the lives of her children, initially volunteering as a religious education teacher at Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee; as they grew older, she became known as the “team mom” for the Mashpee baseball and football teams, cheering on not only her children but the entire team.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her son, Thomas Hogan of Mashpee; her daughter, Taylor Hogan of Mashpee; her stepdaughters, Megan Gardner of Owls Head, New York, and Amanda Gardner of Destin, Florida; her father, Robert Carr and his wife, Kristine Carr, of Merritt Island, Florida; her mother, Barbara Carr and her husband, David Cranshaw, of East Sandwich; her sisters, Amy Carr, also of Merritt Island, and Martha Carr of North Palm Beach, Florida; and extended family.
Calling hours will be Sunday, August 21, from 11 AM to 2 PM at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 74 Algonquin Avenue in Mashpee.
A funeral home service will be Monday, August 22, at 11 AM, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 PM at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
