Marie Ellen Wise, 99, of Mashpee died November 13.

She was married to William B. Wise, with whom she shared 67 years before his death in 2008.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of Helen (Rogers) and James Barrett. She was raised and educated in Queens.

After moving to Wallingford, Connecticut, with her husband and children, Ms. Wise became an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville. She served as coordinator of the women’s retreat group and was the secretary for the Eucharistic Society.

Ms. Wise retired from the Wallingford Board of Education after 25 years as an educational secretary and moved to Cape Cod in 1988. She joined Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee and became immersed in volunteer work for the church. She was a member of the adult choir, the women’s club secretary, coordinator of the church library, Eucharistic minister, and worked at the St. Vincent de Paul Society thrift store.

She leaves her children, George M. Wise and his wife, Christine Wise, of Waquoit, Kevin J. Wise and his wife, Helene Wise, of Wallingford, Connecticut, and Margaret Mary Wise-Saari and her husband, Ron Saari, of Sandwich; five grandchildren, Anne Marie Mello, Jennifer Wise, Debra Boston, Meg Keene and Kevin Wise; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Georgann Mason, and a brother, William J. Williams.

A memorial service was celebrated Tuesday, November 19, at Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee.
