Raymond C. Tompkins, who moved to Mashpee in 1974, died at home on June 29. He was 78.

He was the husband of Maureen M. (Torpey) Tompkins. They had been married for 45 years at the time of her death in 2017.

The son of Raymond and Josephine (Iannillo) Tompkins, he was born in Boston and raised in Charlestown.

Mr. Tompkins served for more than 25 years in the military. He joined the United States Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam. He then enlisted in the US Army and served the remainder of his career in aviation.

He received the Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Mr. Tompkins enjoyed golfing, reading and gardening; he also was a history buff.

He leaves a son, Sean Tompkins and his wife, Kristin Tompkins, of Sandwich; two daughters, Nicole DiPasquale and her husband, Joseph DiPasquale, of Wareham and Jamie Tompkins of Mashpee; six grandchildren; three siblings, Joseph Tompkins, Diane Craven and Joanne Tompkins; and other family.

He was predeceased by his sister Julie Laudenslager.

Interment will be private at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
