Robert Dean Fiester, 91, of Mashpee died December 15 at Cape Cod Hospital.

He grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania with his sister, Phyllis. After high school he joined the US Coast Guard. He served for 27 years and obtained the rank of chief warrant officer.

Mr. Fiester was an engineer on the Coast Guard cutter Spar during a mission to circumnavigate North America through the Northwest Passage in a single season, which was a success. Stationed for most of his career in Woods Hole, he also served on the Nantucket Lightship and as an inspector for lighthouses all over New England.

He leaves three children, Carl W. Fiester Sr. and his wife, Maureen Fiester, of Mashpee, Dean Fiester of Falmouth, and Katherine Leblanc and her husband, Paul Leblanc, of Falmouth; and three grandchildren, Carl W. Fiester Jr., Tyler Fiester and Crystal Fiester.

A graveside service will be Thursday, December 30, at 11:30 AM at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
