Robert Hebden

Robert Edward Hebden, 66, of Mashpee died at home November 4 after a battle with cancer.

His boyhood was spent on Westport Point and Barrington, Rhode Island, until his family moved to Falmouth in 1966.

He was a 1972 graduate of Tabor Academy, where he excelled at hockey and lacrosse. He furthered his education at Leicester Junior College.

After a 25-year career as a bartender in Florida, Mr. Hebden returned to Cape Cod to settle in Mashpee. He worked for the Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard & Nantucket Steamship Authority.

When not working, Mr. Hebden often could be found on the golf course; he was a member of Cape Cod Country Club as well as Heritage Bay Golf & Country Club in Naples, Florida. Fishing and boating became a lifetime passion as it had for his grandfather and father.

He leaves his fiancée, Rita Tosches and her family; two sisters, Gail Hebden Roberts of Falmouth and Joan Hebden Fortier of Somerset; two nieces, Gretchen Roberts Byers and Lily Fortier; five nephews, Scott Roberts, Chris Roberts, Mason Fortier, Connor Fortier and Reed Fortier; and other family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert M. Hebden, Thelma E. Hebden and Jean P. Hebden.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 8, from 3 to 6 PM at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street in Falmouth.
