Thomas Clair Wenzel, a longtime resident of Buzzards Bay, died September 8 at Laurentide at Mashpee Commons. He was 93.

He was the husband of 72 years of Martha C. (Sanford) Wenzel.

Born in Springdale, Pennsylvania, he was the son of James and Vera (Wolford) Wenzel.

Following his graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed at Otis Air Force Base in Bourne. It was there he met the woman who would become his wife; they would go on to raise a family of seven children.

After retirement from New England Telephone, the couple spent their winters at their home in Daytona Beach, Florida.

In their earlier years, Mr. Wenzel and his wife went skiing with their family when they stayed at their vacation home in North Conway, New Hampshire.

He leaves his children, James Wenzel of Buzzards Bay, Michael Wenzel of East Sandwich, Rebecca VanBeeck of Buzzards Bay, Richard Wenzel of Buzzards Bay, Mark Wenzel of Centerville, Deborah Wenzel of Centerville, and Bruce Wenzel of Pocasset; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.

Mr. Wenzel spent the final years of his life in Mashpee at Laurentide.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Margaret’s Church, 141 Main Street in Buzzards Bay.

Burial will follow at 12:30 PM at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
