The decision to hold the Mashpee Town Meeting on June 15 was made without considering the use of an online option like Zoom so that people can participate from home.

In effect, this disenfranchises me and others who do not feel safe going to a large public meeting, even with “safety” precautions.

I know that Zoom (and other services) can successfully accommodate 400 or more people, with the moderator’s option to mute participants and to count votes remotely. This was successfully used to hold a recent statewide Democratic Party meeting.

Votes on important warrant items deserve to be discussed and counted in the presence of all residents who wish to participate. The town should provide older people like myself a way to safely attend online.
