As a lifelong resident of Mashpee who attended Mashpee High School, I feel compelled to address the ongoing issue of luxury property overdevelopment in our town. The recent proposal by Southworth Properties/Willowbend to build more luxury condominiums on previously undisturbed land is a prime example of how this trend is negatively impacting our community, environment and middle-class families. The time has come for us to take a stand and demand our town leaders prioritize our collective well-being over the interests of a select few.

Supporters of luxury developments often assert these projects bring economic benefits by attracting high-income residents who subsequently invest in local businesses and contribute to increased tax revenues. They also maintain landowners have the right to develop their property as they see fit, as long as it adheres to legal regulations.
