We write to assure the people of Mashpee that the Planning Board has not voted a decision regarding the Mashpee Commons Development Agreement, nor regarding any related research materials.

As members of the five-person elected planning board, we raise this point of order because the board’s chairman recently submitted signed letters to this newspaper (September 17) and to the Board of Selectmen (September 13) endorsing materials related to Mashpee Commons without prior consultation with the planning board.

This is of great concern to us, as the signature of the chairman is only to be used to declare a decision of the board held in public session. While we look forward to addressing this at our next board meeting, and pray this is a mere misunderstanding, we felt a prompt clarification in the newspaper was warranted.

In our continuing commitment to represent the people of Mashpee, openly and fairly, we remain faithfully yours,

Dennis H. Balzarini
