Behind a great round from junior Colin Spencer, who shot a one-under par score of 35 at Poquoy Brook Country Club, the Mashpee High School boys’ golf team edged Middleboro by two points on Wednesday, October 14. The Falcons topped the Sachems by a final of 90-88 in a close one as MHS rebounded from its only loss of the year thus far, a nonleague defeat last week to the Cape’s top team, Sandwich.
Colin Spencer opened his round with a birdie, had one in the middle of the round and closed with one. With two bogeys along the way he came in with his one-under round to edge Middleboro’s number one player, Colby Allen. In the modified Stableford system, Spencer scored 28 points for his team, while Allen had 23.
Jack Spencer, who has gone back and forth with his older brother for the low score on the team this season, finished with 20 points overall after a round of 43. He did have a couple of problem holes, but also scored a nice two on the par-3 eighth hole.
Jack Howard finished with 10 points in the third spot and shot a 53. Jack Stone had 12 points and fired a 51. Owen McGovern scored 10 points with his 53 and Cullen Dunn picked up eight points and finished with a round of 55. Noah Burke, playing in the seventh spot, moved up to have his points count as he earned 10 points with a 53.
