Mashpee High ran against Middleboro on a cold and miserable afternoon at Horne Stadium on Monday, May 13, with the Sachems sweeping the meet. The Falcons were still able to put up some impressive individual efforts in their losses, despite wins for Middleboro of 98-35 against the boys and 101.5-32.5 in the girls’ meet.
Senior Xavier Gonsalves picked up two wins in the throwing events for the Falcons. The UMass-bound football player won the shot put with a throw of 45 feet and one inch. He claimed the top spot in the discus with a throw of 100-1.5.
Fellow senior Cam Kergo also had two wins in jumping events, and a win on the track. In the 100-meter dash he was first to the finish line in a time of 11.8 seconds. He scored a win in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches. In the long jump he posted a distance of 20 feet and a half-inch. AJ Govoni was third in the long jump at 17-0.25.
Gabe Pahlais had a win and a second-place finish. In the 400-meter hurdles he won in 68.4 seconds. He was second in the javelin with a throw of 96-2.
Deshawn Adler took third in the 400 meters with a time of 60.4. Nick Santos took third in the 200m in 26.6 seconds and Nick Perrone took third in the two-mile with a finish of 13:13.
For the girls, Ashley Keleher scored points in four events for the Falcons. She won the 200m race in 27.8 seconds and was also first in the 100m dash in 12.9. She tied for first in the long jump with a leap of 12-10.5 and was second in the triple jump with a hop, skip and a jump of 33-1.5.
Tess Hachey scored second place in the high jump with a 4-2 leap. Mary Hachey was second in the mile in 6:40.
Kira McHugh was third in the shot put with a throw of 22-10. Alexa Garcia was third in the 400m in 73.2 seconds. Juliana Reynolds earned a second-place finish in the 800m race in 2:53.
