There is one thing that every coach values very highly in a player—versatility. The ability to handle more than one job, and have multiple responsibilities, raises a player’s stock exponentially. Sydney Burke is that type of player for the Mashpee High School field hockey team. In a game at Middleboro High School on Tuesday, September 10, Burke showed just how much she can do by playing three different positions in the game, seeing time at sweeper, defense and midfield. “Sydney is the most positive player in our program. She plays with passion, strength and is beyond versatile as an athlete. When you give her direction she is a yes woman and gives her all even if it is something new or that she is unsure of,” coach Kelly Horan said.
