Former Mashpee High School all-star Devaun Ford has not missed a beat at the college level. Ford, who is the all-time leading scorer in Mashpee history, was selected the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Rookie of the Week for the final week of the 2019 football regular season. It was the fifth time that he’s won the award this year for Framingham State.
A few days later he was honored with an even more prestigious award. Ford was named Rookie of the Year after rushing for 1,003 yards on 173 carries with nine touchdowns during his first season with the Rams.
Ford surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for his rookie season as the Rams closed the regular season with a victory over Worcester State. He rushed for 191 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown in that victory. The freshman averaged 8.7 yards per carry while also making four catches for 49 yards.
Ford led the Rams to their eighth consecutive victory as they defeated Worcester State, which features fellow former MHS Falcon Cam Kergo, by a 47-6 score. Kergo had two catches for 29 yards in the game and carried the ball once, losing three yards on his lone attempt. Kergo has been the top receiver for the Lancers, who are now 0-10 on the season. He has 41 catches for 446 yards and four touchdowns.
Framingham State has now won eight straight games and is 8-2. Framingham State will travel to Wesley College, in Dover, Delaware, on Saturday, November 23, to open the NCAA Division III tournament.
