Maddie Souza dominated Upper Cape Tech as the Mashpee softball team put a seven-game losing streak to bed with a 14-0 shellacking of the Rams in Mashpee on Monday, May 20. Souza allowed just six hits and struck out the same number as she secured the shutout just a few days after committing to pitch for the University of Maine-Farmington after she completes her senior year in 2020.
The offense helped her out quite a bit on the day that senior Corey Andrade was honored. Andrade, the team’s lone senior, had a single, reached base twice and scored a run in the rout. Mashpee scored four times in the first inning to take control of the game as they batted around the order in the frame. They went on to tack on runs in every inning of the Mercy Rule-shortened contest. The Falcons plated two in the second, three in the third, and five in the fourth.
Catcher Jayden Bryant reached base all four times she came to the plate, and scored four times in the game. She singled twice, walked and reached on an error. Cheyenne Hendricks reached all three times she batted and had an RBI-single and an RBI-triple that cleared the bases.
