The Mashpee High School track and field teams ran against Middleboro and Norwell on Tuesday, January 7. Both teams swept the Falcons. The boys lost to MHS by a 74-22 score and Norwell won 47-31. On the girls’ side, Middleboro won 92-8 and Norwell scored a 69-20 win.
AJ Govoni was eighth overall in the 55m with a time of 7.13 for the boys. Newcomer Will Baker had a strong first run at the dash with a time of 7.56 seconds.
In the 300m race, Dan Mitchell was 10th overall with a time of 41.96 seconds. Gabe Palhais ran to a fourth overall finish in the 600m with a time of 1:32.93. The boys’ 4x200m relay squad, of Palhais, Dan Mitchell, Baker, and Govoni, was fourth overall in the South Shore League with a solid time of 1:46.33.
AJ Govoni was second overall in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 2 inches. His effort qualified him for states in his first meet, coming back from being sick. Mitchell also performed well in the long jump, placing sixth overall with a distance of 17 feet and a half-inch. Baker jumped five feet in the high jump.
On the girls’ side, Alexa Garcia was sixth overall in the 300m with a time of 47.51. Callia Eaton placed seventh overall in the 600m with a time of 1:59.13. Alinna Hanna claimed eighth overall in the 55m Hurdles with a time of 10.98 seconds. The girls’ 4x200m relay team was fourth-fastest at the meet, running 2:04.07. The team consisted of Hanna, Eaton, Garcia and Kelly Skantz.
